The Wonders of Reflexology

Reflexology for you and your family

Written by Katie Ruane, The Family Naturopath

Reflexology is a gentle, nurturing therapy that supports the whole body - from your organs to your hormone systems. In my practice, treatments are soothing, non-invasive, and designed to help your body work more efficiently. And it’s not just for adults - I can also teach you how to use reflexology techniques on your baby or child to naturally support their wellbeing.

There’s also a large and growing body of clinical research exploring how reflexology may benefit a wide range of concerns, which makes it an exciting complementary therapy for many families.

How Does Reflexology Work?

The entire body is mapped onto specific areas of the feet - mostly the soles, but also the sides and tops. When gentle pressure is applied to these reflex points, nerve endings are stimulated and communication pathways in the body are encouraged to work more smoothly.

This can help release tension, improve overall function, and support the body’s natural ability to balance itself.

Relaxation, Stress Relief & Better Sleep?

One of the most-loved benefits of reflexology is how deeply relaxing it is. By helping reduce stress, anxiety, and mental overload, reflexology often improves sleep quality - and when you sleep better, everything in your body gets a chance to restore and rebalance.

Reflexology During and After Pregnancy

Reflexology can be a wonderful support during pregnancy, helping ease common symptoms such as:

  • Back pain

  • Constipation

  • Swelling

  • General discomfort

After birth, reflexology offers gentle support as your body recovers and adjusts.

Reflexology for Babies and Children

Children typically respond to reflexology incredibly quickly. It can help with:

  • Digestive discomfort

  • Coughs and colds

  • Restlessness, overstimulation, and trouble settling

It’s a beautiful way to soothe them naturally, and many parents love learning simple techniques they can use at home.

A Simple, Holistic Support for the Whole Family

This is only a brief overview of what reflexology can offer. For many people (health permitting), it becomes a go-to therapy for relaxation, balance, and general wellbeing. Whether you’re pregnant, have a new baby, or want support for your child, reflexology may be a gentle and powerful option for your family.
